Gatton in the Golden Triangle

Nestled in the heart of the Lockyer Valley, Gatton has long been considered the “salad
bowl” of Queensland. Situated just 86km West of Brisbane and 37km East of Toowoomba
(Australia’s second largest inland City) Gatton has drawn very real comparisons to Penrith
of yesteryear.

As well as being the central destination for the Shires 40,000+ population the University of
Qld have relocated their “Veterinary Science Faculty” from St. Lucia to the Gatton
Campus so the Lockyer Valley plays host to a World Class facility which currently caters to
approximately 2500 students and 500 staff members, investing $140m in the process.
The Shire also hosts the 680 hectare ($485m) “Southern Queensland Correctional
Centre” which provides another strong source of employment in the area. With the second
stage of development imminent this will create more opportunity for jobs both in the fields of
construction and on a permanent/casual basis.

Naturally the “Salad Bowls” longest running and most productive industry is Agricultural
Produce with everything from lucerne hay, corn, tomatoes, potato, pumpkin, carrots,
broccoli, cauliflower to name just a few being harvested all year round. Other strong
employment sources include Stanbroke Meatworks at Helidon and Coominya Meatworks.
With construction of the second Range crossing to Toowoomba ($1.6 billion) commencing
the area will have another 1800 full time jobs on offer over a 3.5 – 5 year period, further
driving rental demand and ultimately capital values.

Both Coles & Woolworths are further investing into the local area with Coles Express (24
hr Supermarket & Service Station) & Bunnings Hardware, BWS Liqour & Woolworths
Hotels.

Wellcamp West International Airport is just a 40 minute drive situated on the western side
of Toowoomba. With daily flights to Sydney, Melbourne & Cairns and other destinations, this
facility offers easy access and minimal traffic congestion.

With the Inland Rail link from Brisbane to Melbourne stopping off in Gatton Township, expect
to see considerable growth over the coming years. Plans to create a high speed passenger
rail link between Brisbane & Toowoomba will likely follow this freight route.
